HOUSTON, Texas - Boris and Melvins, two iconic bands in the realm of metal rock and metal scene, joined forces for the "Twins of Evil Tour," making a memorable stop in Houston, TX on October 2nd, 2023, where Warehouse Live played host to a packed crowd.

The Melvins, a pioneering rock band since their inception in 1983 in Washington, took the stage first. Melvins delivered an electrifying performance that showcased their influential role in the development of grunge and sludge metal. Their thick, sludge metal sounds reverberated throughout the venue, captivating their loyal fan base.

Following the Melvins, Boris took the stage, shrouding the venue in a dense cloud of smoke. Hailing from Tokyo, Japan, and formed in 1992, Boris comprises three immensely talented musicians: drummer Atsuo, guitarist/bassist Takeshi, and guitarist/keyboardist Wata, all of whom contribute to creating a truly unique sonic experience. Their music seamlessly melds sludge, metal, noise, and psychedelic rock, immersing the audience in a mesmerizing soundscape.

The night was evidence of the enduring power of these two remarkable bands, each representing their distinctive musical backgrounds and leaving the crowd in sheer amazement. Below, you'll find images from the show and links to connect with the bands on social media.

HOUSTON, Texas - The Red Bull Batalla's USA Regional Qualifier competition made its first ever stop in Houston mid August, bringing together the best MCs from Texas and across the country.
Picture
The Texas showdown featured sixteen remarkable wordsmiths taking the Red Bull stage. It was a distinguished group, some of whom had already earned regional championship titles. These elite lyricists were picked to partake in a bracket-style tournament battle, and within the illustrious ensemble, half of the contenders proudly come from the Lone Star State. Representing vibrant locales like Austin, El Paso, San Antonio, and Houston, these MCs showcase their talents. Yet, each of the sixteen participants was fueled by a shared ambition – to secure their place in the coveted National USA Final, a grand event scheduled for Dallas this November.
This crescendo is only a portion of the global voyage, which will conclude in December in Columbia, Mexico, at the Red Bull Batalla World Champions.

"The qualifier competition brought out some of the best talent we've seen from Texas. It really showcased how relevant the Spanish freestyle community is to Htown," said Trey Hicks of Painting Pictures PR.
Picture
The master of ceremonies was none other than Texas' own Omar Cadena, celebrated as Fluffy The Host. Co-hosting alongside was esteemed Racso White Lion. The renowned panel of judges overseeing the Houston qualifier included acclaimed MC Skiper, who holds the title of the 2021 National Champion of Red Bull Batalla de los Gallos in Mexico; Chester who is an enduring figure within the California scene; and Barba, a skilled lyricist hailing proudly from the nearby city of Austin, Texas.
Fluffy the Host
MAGIMBRI WINS!
Amplifying the vibrant atmosphere, an alluring parlor market area showcased a pop-up tattoo shop offering complimentary tattoos. Some of Houston's hottest local tattoo artists were in the mix, including Omar from Assassin Tattoo Houston, Vito, and Sandee from It Always Hurts Tattoo, along with well-respected Houston hip-hop MC Juan Gotti. Guests were provided with an array of tattoo art designs to select from, infusing a unique layer of creativity into the experience.
The competition had intense stages that featured face-to-face matches between aspiring MCs where they exhibited their most brilliant rhymes, wordplay, and charisma. Hundreds of fans stopped by Metropolis to support the thriving Spanish-freestyle scene. This specific Red Bull showcase of talent transcends borders, uniting the best Spanish-speaking freestylers.

Top MC of the night: Magimbri from San Antonio
Following a ferocious battle in Houston, Magimbri from San Antonio took home the trophy as the top MC of the night. Red Bull has now invited 16 MCs from across the US to compete for a spot at the Red Bull Batalla National Final in Dallas this November. In the end, all four qualifying MCs from the Houston event hailed from the state of Texas including Magimbri (San Antonio), Lies (Houston), White Caracas (Houston), and Estany (San Antonio)!
For the Red Bull Batalla Houston grand finale, the spotlight was turned to one of the biggest rising stars in Texas, rap sensation, That Mexican OT, who delivered a special, post-battle concert that left the crowd cheering for more.

HOUSTON, Texas - Bass Drum of Death rocked Houston's House of Blues, the second stop on their national headline tour. They packed the Bronze Peacock room for an unforgettable evening of gritty rock 'n' roll. The Oxford, Mississippi-based garage punk band has a new album "Say I Won't". It was recorded at Audio Eagle Studios in Nashville, Tennessee with Patrick Carney of The Black Keys. The band's fifth studio album is a collection of 70's groove-oriented rock tracks, and a hefty reminder the southern trio knows how to rock!
